A new career in the field of electrical engineering starts at one of the nine schools in Idaho that have this program. Eight of these schools have Associate's degree programs, while eight schools have Bachelor's degree programs. There are three schools in Idaho that award Master's degrees and doctoral degrees.

You can get a great engineering education with any type of degree, but different degrees can help you reach different career goals. An Associate's degree requires the completion of 60 credits over the course of two years. This degree can prepare you for Bachelor's-level coursework. Earning a Bachelor's degree requires you to complete 120 credits in courses like Advanced Circuits, Signal and Linear Systems, and Digital Logic Design. This degree takes an average of four years.

You can also choose to earn an advanced degree if you have a Bachelor's degree in engineering. A Master's degree takes approximately two years. This degree involves earning 30 credits in advanced courses like Feedback Control Design and Power Electronic Converters. A PhD requires the completion of a thesis, so the average completion time for this degree is seven years.

Idaho may be one of the most affordable states for students. If you are a resident of Idaho, the average cost of tuition is $5200. If you are not a resident, the average cost of tuition is $8100. You can lower your tuition costs by applying for scholarships.

If you are a female engineering student, consider applying for the Southwest Idaho Section of the Society of Women Engineers Scholarship. This scholarship is worth $2000. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Idaho Scholarship can be worth between $1000 and $5000.

After you have graduated from your engineering program, you can start the process of earning your engineering license. All licensure in Idaho goes through the Idaho Board of Licensure of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. You are eligible for your license after you pass your exam and send your application to the board. As a new engineer, you may want to join the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers. This can help you learn about new job opportunities and network with other engineers.
