If you live in New Jersey and are interested in building large structures than civil engineering would be great for you. When discussing the time needed for schooling it's surprising when you find out you typically only need a 4 year degree, which can make it seem like a more doable process. There are also exams that you will need to pass in order to work in New Jersey as a Civil Engineer and licenses that you will need to obtain. Although it can seem like a lot of work it will be worth the effort in the long run when you start making money and get involved with a fast growing career choice.

New Jersey is a fast growing area and is always in need of civil engineers. To become a civil engineer you will need to finish a four year degree in engineering, this degree should be an ABET approved program. You will also need to be successful with math and science, and being a people person is also a great asset since you will be working with many different people throughout your career.

Civil engineers in New Jersey will need to pass many exams including; the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination. Although the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination can be waived if you have 15 or more years of experience in the United States in this field.

According to the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety Division of Consumer Affairs, to become licensed as a Professional Engineer you must have graduated from an approved four-year program and have a minimum of four hours in related experience. If that is not the case, students with a related board approved degree and six years of related experience can apply.

Although it can be tough and the exam process can seem overwhelming it is a very fast growing career opportunity. With wages around $80,000 per year it is worth the hassle in the beginning to end up with a fast growing, well paying job. If you have a love and passion for building large structures such as; bridges, buildings, roads, tunnels or airports than this could be a perfect job for you.
