Computer Engineering Schools in Oklahoma

If you are thinking about starting a career as computer engineer, you can start by attending an engineering school in Oklahoma. There are three schools with this degree. There are no Associate’s programs in the state. However, all three schools offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. Two of the schools in Oklahoma have PhD programs.

As an undergraduate student, your only degree choice in the state is a Bachelor’s degree. This generally takes four to five years of full-time study. You complete 120 to 130 credits in courses like Introduction to Data Structures, Computer Architecture, and Software Engineering. Your time should be split between traditional lecture courses and lab courses, which work together to give you a comprehensive engineering education.

An advanced degree may be necessary if you want to work in research or teaching. A Master’s degree takes about two years to earn if you attend school full-time. You complete 30 credits in advanced courses like Advanced Coding Theory and Embedded Systems. A PhD includes some of the same courses, but it also requires a thesis. You need, on average, seven years to earn a PhD.

Tuition costs differ between schools, but they tend to be lower at two-year schools and public colleges. Overall, the average cost of tuition in Oklahoma is $10,600.

There are many different scholarship opportunities that you can take advantage of as an Oklahoma student. The Oklahoma Engineering Foundation offers multiple scholarships every academic year. Be sure to apply early, as the deadline for this scholarship is February 15. Oklahoma’s Oil & Natural Gas Producers & Royalty Owners also provides scholarships to local engineering students.

To use your degree and work as an engineer, you must be licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors. First, you have to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, which is administered by NCEES. After the board verifies your score, you can apply for your license.
