Idaho Engineering Degrees

The U.S. Bureau of Statistics ranks agricultural engineering with the largest growth, sitting at 26.4 percent. The state accomodates to the growing field of engineering with the the Southern Idaho Section. The Southern Idaho Section serves over 600 Members of American Society of Civil Engineers in Idaho, as well as two Student Chapters. Those two student chapter serve Student Members at Boise State University and Idaho State University.

Here are some of the larger employers in Idaho that hire engineering professionals: Micron Technology, Inc., Idaho National Laboratory, Saint Luke’s Regional Medical Center, Hewlett-Packard Company, J.R. Simplot Co., Albertsons, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Boise State University, DirecTV, Idaho Power Company, MPC Computers and AMI Semiconductor.

Idaho Engineering Education

Idaho has five schools offering Bachelor of Science engineering programs. Three offer a range associate and certificate programs. Only three offer master’s and doctoral graduate course work but it does have a good range of engineering disciplines.

Scholarship and financial aid opportunities are available through the schools. The Society of Women Engineers and NASA Idaho Space Grant School program are two other scholarship making awards for Idaho students.

Outlook for Engineering Jobs in Idaho

Job growth for the engineering field in Idaho is predicted to grow but at a slower pace. The remote and agricultural dominance of the economy means there are not a large number of positions, but the wages are generally higher than many similar states. Idaho’s mean wage for engineers is $72,440 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It offers an adventurous path with western sensibility.
