Computer engineering is a dynamic, growing field. If you want to start a career as a computer engineer, it all starts with attending one of the three engineering schools in Nevada. Earning an advanced degree can prepare you for a career in teaching or research. A Master’s degree requires you to complete 30 credits, which you may be able to do in about two years. A PhD takes an average of seven years because you have to complete and defend a thesis. Coursework at this level includes Parallel Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, and Microprocessor Design.
Tuition rates in Nevada vary significantly between schools. The average cost of tuition is $12,100. You may be able to lower your out-of-pocket costs by applying for federal financial aid and scholarships.
Nevada has many scholarships specifically for engineering students. If you are a female engineering student, you can consider a scholarship from the Nevada branch of the Society of Women Engineers. Another option is one of the scholarships awarded by the Nevada Society of Professional Engineers.
Before you can begin working as a professional engineer in Nevada, you have to get your license from the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. This involves passing the NCEES exam and having your scores verified by the board. Once your application is approved, you can look forward to getting your license in the mail.
