Computer engineering is a dynamic, growing field. If you want to start a career as a computer engineer, it all starts with attending one of the three engineering schools in Nevada. There is one school with an Associate’s degree program. Two schools have Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctorate degree programs.

If you are trying to decide if computer engineering is right for you, you may want to pursue an Associate’s degree. This degree takes about two years, and you complete 60 credits of coursework in basic engineering classes. You may be able to transfer your credits to a Bachelor’s degree. A Bachelor’s degree is made up of 120 credits, which means that you may be able to graduate in four to five years. Some of the courses you may take at this level include Network Analysis, Software Engineering, and Assembly Language.

Earning an advanced degree can prepare you for a career in teaching or research. A Master’s degree requires you to complete 30 credits, which you may be able to do in about two years. A PhD takes an average of seven years, because you have to complete and defend a thesis. Coursework at this level includes Parallel Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, and Microprocessor Design.
